The Malahat

On the Malahat you'll view some of the most beautiful countryside of Vancouver Island between Victoria, at the southern tip of the island, and Courtenay midway up the island.
You will travel through Ladysmith which boasts the warmest sea water north of San Francisco and Nanaimo which offers some of British Columbia's best scuba diving. A great way to discover this amazing island and an economical and ecologically more friendly alternative to driving.
Victoria is Vancouver Island's provincial capital and whilst there is plenty here to keep you occupied the 4 hour journey from Victoria to Courtney on the Malahat should not be missed.
Vancouver Island boasts something for everyone and is near the top of Canada's most popular tourist destinations. Whale watching and kayaking along the islands stunning coastline, hiking in the interior's awe inspiring forests, with some of the tallest trees in the world and snow sports on Mt Washington are all available for the adventurous.
For those who like a more laid back lifestyle how about fishing, exploring the history of the Island's aboriginal people - the Salish Indians or stroll the green streets of Victoria also known as the Garden City. The train operates once daily in both directions, year round.
This brilliant trip takes you on a journey from the populated south of the island, across trestle bridges and ravines, through the densely forested Cowichan valley north to where you will find the Islands best ski resort, great whale watching opportunities and some gorgeous beaches.
